Autograph letter signed : Brantwood, Coniston, to Jane Simon, 1883 Feb. 10.

Saying he is working on an addenda to the new 2nd volume of Modern Painters; telling her that the Deucalion is coming from the printers today and he will send her a copy; hoping that she finds that he is still writing well and that when she sees the drawings he made in Italy last year, she will think he still draws well; adding that he is slowing down physically; saying that he is working on the lectures that he will deliver at Oxford and he is "well assured that without effort, I can write as many simples lectures for them as they will expect, in the year. If I feel too dull I shall read things written before;" saying that he believes that he can still do good work but that "the fear of Death was never closer to me, or sadder--than it is now, day by day; the Hope of any good thing, beyond death, more dim."
